The guide
The eight characters you could get
Buddy the Elf from Elf, relentlessly merry. Kevin McCallister from Home Alone, resourceful and secretly soft. The Grinch, grumpy outside with a huge heart underneath. Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation, big dreams and an even bigger light display.
Cindy Lou Who, kind to a fault and sure there is good in everyone. Ebenezer Scrooge from A Christmas Carol, a skeptic with the best comeback arc in town. Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas, a curious dreamer who reinvents the holiday. And Ralphie Parker from A Christmas Story, one wish and a giant imagination.
How your character is picked
There are six questions about how you actually spend the season: what you are doing on December 1st, your ideal Christmas Eve, what you do when a friend is being a grump, how you decorate, your Christmas superpower, and how you feel about Christmas morning.
Each answer adds points to one or more characters, and the character with the most points at the end is you. The descriptions are written by us and say what each character is like, so nobody needs to have seen all eight films to know whether the result fits.
Playing it with a group
It works best out loud. Read each question to the room, let everyone answer on their own phone, and reveal results at the same time. The fun is in the arguments about whether Dad is really a Clark or a Scrooge.
Then use the results to settle the movie. Whoever gets the rarest character picks what everyone watches, and the Christmas Movie Picker can help if nobody can agree.
